As the summer solstice comes to a close and as we enter a new season ripe for clubbing hedonism, club kids and music connosieurs alike come together connecting through the music. It's a time when the Playback monthly sessions steps up the game in joining the music dots in Black dance music. With a selection that's hotter than toasted marshmallows Mind Fluid resident Kevin Beadle leaves the helm of the city to make his debut Saturday 18th October, at the best pre party in the centre of town. He'll be throwing down a cocktail of hard jazz, disco, deeper soulful Afro and Latin house grooves, funk and soul for the well tuned listener.

KEVIN BEADLE
DJ, compiler, producer, label boss and radio presenter Kev Beadles bio reads like a journey through the halcyon years of the jazz scene in the UK from the early 80s to the early 90s, right through to the recent revival and rebirth through modern manifestations of nu-jazz, latin, broken beat and neo-soul. Since 2000 Kev has taken the helm and seen him spin alongside many of his DJ peers including Gilles Peterson, Bugz in the Attic, Bob Jones, Raw Deal, Ross Allen, Benji B and Phil Asher to name but a few. He is also one of the longest-running dj residents at the legendary Southport Dance Weekender where he is also the main consultant for the events alternative room the Bacardi B-Bar.
Aside from these Kev spends much of his time concentrating on his own productions and remixes, formerly as the TD Project (alongside Chris Bangs) for the Dadhouse label and now as one half of a production team called Messengers (alongside Darren Moss). Recent production and co-writing credits include the track Kiss Ya Lips (No I.D.) for Ian Browns latest LP Solarized. as well as various productions and remixes over the last two years. With all this under his belt, Kev is not content to sit on his laurels, preferring to push the boundaries, create and showcase innovative sounds. His djing musical style is always jazzy and soulful incorporating everything from nu-jazz, neo soul, latin, afro, funky, broken beats, hip-hop, house, drum and bass, and jazz, soul and funk from the last 30 years.

MARCIA CARR
DJ Marcia Carr plays host to Playback, the successful monthly; they’ll celebrate their 3rd birthday this November. A true stalwart and a legend in the dance music industry since the mid eighties, you can catch her between 8pm and 1am as she dips in and out of various genres of Black music. It’s an eclectic mix of deeper, touching funky house, disco, classic boogie, Afro & Latin grooves, nu jazz, fresh funk, brok’n beat, all played with an attitude focused on being both inspirational and uplifting with some truly talented like-minded folks – every 3rd Saturday of the month, at 11 Market Place, Oxford Circus W1. The key to Playback’s victory thus far revolves around love, that is to say a message of godly love is a constant theme in what resident Marcia and her guests select. “I believe “true unselfish love is the foundation of our very being. It’s more than just expressing tenderness or care for someone; it’s also about loving your neighbour - without prejudice or judgement. Ultimately, that make us a better people and toward one another” she expresses with such an exhilaration you’d be hard pressed to not agree with her vision given the vibe she gives off. Continuing she suggests that “Playback desires to honour and salute that precious feeling of love, too often taken for granted, by bringing that emotion out through music which has a way of bringing people together…it’s a listening back session, a playback experience to be cherished and uplift us all at the same time!
